Vijay's 'Jana Nayagan' leak: Three more arrested by Chennai Cyber Crime police; Freelance editor main accused
Chennai’s Cyber Crime police have made headlines by arresting nine individuals, which notably includes a freelance editor, amid the tumult surrounding the leak of the forthcoming film ‘Jana Nayagan’ featuring Vijay. This unauthorized release has stirred a wave of indignation, leading stars like Suriya and R Madhavan to passionately advocate for a boycott of pirated materials.

The upcoming film ‘Jana Nayagan’ is written and directed by H Vinoth and it’s an important film as it marks Vijay’s final film before he shifts focus to politics. The cast includes Bobby Deol, Pooja Hegde, and Mamitha Baiju in pivotal roles. The leak surfaced on April 9 and it caused distress among the fans and celebrities who took to social media and shared their reactions. Reports from Cinema Express says that Chennai Cyber Crime police have arrested three more people in connection with the leak of Vijay’s ‘Jana Nayagan’. These arrests follow six earlier detentions on April 12. The main accused is reportedly a freelance editor who stole the film’s footage.

Arrest details and investigation progress on ‘Jana Nayagan’ leak

The latest arrests bring the total to nine in the ‘Jana Nayagan’ leak case. Police identified a freelance editor as the key figure. Reportedly, he gained unauthorised access to the footage during editing work. Reports say that after rendering the material, he shared it with others, leading to widespread online circulation. The probe continues with technical analysis of digital trails.

Court action and cable operator arrest

On April 16, the Madras High Court passed an interim order. It restricts cable operators and internet service providers from broadcasting or facilitating the illegal footage of ‘Jana Nayagan’. This follows a suit filed by KVN Productions, the film’s banner. Earlier, a cable operator in Coimbatore was arrested for airing a pirated version.

Surya to R Madhavan reacts

Several film personalities reacted sharply to the leak. Suriya urged fans not to engage with the content.Suriya wrote, “Heartbreaking and unfair – an entire team’s passion reduced to this. I request you all with sincerity, please don’t watch, share, or discuss the film here. Respect their work. I stand with my friends and condemn this act; it’s unforgivable.”R Madhavan agreed and added his thoughts, “I totally agree. This is extremely heartbreaking and troubling. How are people getting away with this? Please respect the hard work of everyone involved in this film. Please avoid watching it on pirated platforms.”Chiranjeevi wrote on X, “The unfortunate leak of #Jananayagan is something that deeply concerns me. Cinema is built on trust, effort, and the collective dreams of many. Such incidents affect all of us in the industry and remind us how crucial it is to protect our creative work. My thoughts and support are with the movie team. Let us all take responsibility to respect and protect cinema. Kill Piracy. Save Cinema.”
