Acclaimed actor Vijay Varma, currently riding high on the success of ‘IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack’ and gearing up for the release of ‘Matka King’, has revealed an ambitious new goal: stepping into the director’s chair. In a candid conversation with Variety India, the versatile star shared his vision for a pure horror drama set against the mystical backdrop of Rajasthan.

The actor spoke to Variety India about wanting to direct a movie. When asked more, he funnily shared the type of film: full horror. He said, “I would love to do a horror set in Rajasthan. Very ‘jaadu-tona’ kind of a horror. Very psychological, [but] at the same time, straight-up horror, not like laced up with comedy. A horror drama.”Vijay Varma’s past horror experienceVijay has done horror before, especially in the ‘Ghost Stories’ anthology where he was in Zoya Akhtar’s part. Bollywood now loves horror comedies a lot, so a real horror drama feels new and nice. For his next work, he wants to do comedy, a type he thinks we don’t have enough of.

Post ‘IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack’, Vijay Varma is all set for a whirlwind year. His next big thing, ‘Matka King’, hits screens April 17, with him as Brij Bhatti, a cotton trader transformed into 1960s Bombay’s gambling king. Sharing the spotlight are Sai Tamhankar, Kritika Kamra, Siddharth Jadhav, Jamie Lever, and Gulshan Grover. Vijay’s also tapped for Netflix’s ‘Family Business’ series, loaded with stars like Anil Kapoor, Akash Khurana, Rhea Chakraborty, Neha Dhupia, and others.
