This day is also known as Nobo Borsho – Nobo means New and Borsho means Year. This is an extremely fortunate day according to Bengal calendar. This day is considered an auspicious day to launch new businesses, start new ventures, buy new homes, and buy new vehicle. It marks the beginning of the Bengali Era, 1433. It represents a new beginning full of hope, prosperity, and optimism and is the first day of the Bengali calendar. The celebration inspires individuals to put the past behind them and look forward to the future with hope.

On this auspicious day, women wear sarees and men dress up in kurtas. People invite their friends, family, and relations to celebrate. They greet one another and prepare special meals.
