The micro-SUV space continues to heat up in India. Hyundai recently launched the refreshed Exter Facelift which will take on the updated Tata Punch Facelift. While the Punch has long held a strong grip on this segment, both models have now received notable updates, making the comparison more relevant than ever. Here’s a quick look at some of the key details and how these two models compare on paper.

Starting with dimensions, the Exter measures 3,830 mm in length, 1,723 mm in width and 1,643 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,450 mm. It also offers a larger boot capacity of 391 litres. The Punch, on the other hand, is slightly longer at 3,876 mm and wider at 1,742 mm, but stands lower at 1,615 mm. Its wheelbase is marginally shorter at 2,445 mm, while boot space stands at 366 litres. In simple terms, the Exter offers more vertical space and luggage room, whereas the Punch brings a wider stance.

Step inside, and both SUVs show clear upgrades. The Exter facelift introduces a fresh dual-tone navy blue and grey theme, along with semi-fabric beige seat upholstery and a new flat-bottom steering wheel. It also gets a decent set of features including an 8.0-inch touchscreen, an 8.0-inch digital driver’s display, cruise control, wireless charging, a sunroof, automatic climate control, and even an integrated dashcam. However, it misses out on a 360-degree camera.The Punch facelift, meanwhile, comes equipped with a larger 10.2-inch touchscreen, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, touch-based climate controls, rear AC vents, ambient lighting, connected car tech and an auto-dimming IRVM. The new Punch also gets a 360-degree camera setup.

Hyundai Exter Facelift vs Tata Punch Facelift: Engine specs

The Punch is offered with multiple powertrain options, including a 1.2-litre NA petrol, a new 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine, and a CNG variant. The turbocharged unit, producing 118 hp and 170 Nm, stands out as a unique offering in this segment. The NA version produces 88 hp and 115 Nm, while the CNG variant delivers 73.5 hp and 103 Nm. Transmission choices include manual and AMT options, though the turbo-petrol is limited to a 6-speed manual.In comparison, the Exter keeps things simpler. It is powered by a 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol engine producing 83 hp and 114 Nm, available with both manual and AMT gearboxes. The CNG version develops 69 hp and 95 Nm and comes only with a manual transmission. Both models feature dual-cylinder technology for their CNG versions.

The Punch facelift is priced between Rs 5.59 lakh and Rs 9.29 lakh, while the Exter facelift ranges from Rs 5.80 lakh to Rs 9.42 lakh, ex-showroom.
