Have you been mopping your floor all wrong? This once-a-week trick can give floors a glass-like shine

Mopping floors is a daily ritual in most houses. But imagine despite mopping thoroughly, your floors still look dull, dirty and or like “why is not shining,” then you’re not alone. Well maybe you have been mopping the floor all wrong till now. Also if you think water, detergent and phenol is enough, again you are wrong. Traditional mopping removes dirt but doesn’t leave it shiny. Over time, this leaves behind residue that kills your floor’s natural shine. Want to know the secret? All you need is this simple once-a-week deep-clean method using salt and baking soda. Why normal mopping Isn’t enoughDaily mopping is not enough because our home floors experience daily foot traffic, dust, kitchen oil and food. When you mop just with water, these particles turn into a thin layer which instead of lifting grime, spreads across the surface. It attracts even more dirt and that’s one of the prime reasons that floors feel sticky or dark despite being cleaned everyday. The magic begins with this two-step methodRemember, this method works like magic on tiles and marble flooring.Step 1: Dry scrub the floor with a mixture of salt and baking sodaStarting dry is the trick no one tells you about.Mix equal parts of rock salt or baking soda and sprinkle generously on the floor. Then take a rough mop and dry scrub the surface. Salt acts as a mild abrasive and helps loosen old sticky dirt, while baking soda absorbs grease. This scrubbing pulls out grime. Now sweep the loose powder and dirt.Step 2: Mop with hot water Now comes the shine part.Take a bucket full of hot water (comfortable on skin) and add a little regular floor detergent. Dip a mop cloth, and wipe the floor firmly. What works here is the hot water which dissolves grease and soap residue. Dry scrubbing removes most of the dirt and this step cleans instead of smearing. For best results, rinse the mop frequently and change the water if it becomes dirty. Why it worksDry scrubbing removes raw dirt wellHot water helps in deep cleaningSalt and baking soda reach places mops can’tMany people notice their floors looking visibly brighter after just one session. The best part is you only need to do this method once a week. On other days, normal mopping is enough. Avoid this method on wooden floors or delicate surfaces. Just try and do it every week and see the results.
