In a moving tribute, rising star Babil Khan took to social media on Thursday, March 19, 2026, to honor the memory of his late father, the legendary Irrfan Khan. Sharing a series of rare and intimate childhood photographs, the ‘Qala’ actor reflected on his deep-rooted bond with the late actor, who passed away in April 2020. The collection of images, ranging from tender moments of a baby Babil cradled in Irrfan’s arms to playful shoulder rides at home, captured a side of the global icon rarely seen by the public.

Babil paired the images with a heartfelt caption: “To begin again, remembering you. With my feet planted firm in my roots.” His mother, Sutapa Sikdar, left a touching comment: “What beautiful pictures both with same expression. Mashaallah.”The pictures show close and real moments between Irrfan and young Babil. In one, Irrfan holds baby Babil in his arms, both are looking up. In another, the late actor sits near his son, softly holding him while talking to him. In a third image, Irrfan carries Babil on his shoulders, with the child holding on for fun during a happy time at home.

Irrfan Khan’s untimely passing

For those unaware, Irrfan Khan died on April 29, 2020, at age 53, after fighting a neuroendocrine tumour, a rare cancer. His death shocked the nation and the worldwide film community. Sutapa Sikdar, a writer and producer, was Irrfan’s wife for many years. They met at the National School of Drama, married in 1995, and have two sons, Babil and Ayan.

On the other hand, Babil Khan has stepped into his father’s shoes by joining the film industry. He debuted as an actor in the 2022 Netflix movie ‘Qala’, sharing the screen with Triptii Dimri and Swastika Mukherjee.
