The UAE will celebrate Eid Al Fitr on March 20 after the Shawwal crescent moon was not sighted, with authorities in Abu Dhabi rolling out safety guidelines to ensure smooth and secure celebrations across the emirate. The announcement was made on Wednesday evening following the moon-sighting process, confirming the completion of Ramadan and the start of Eid Al Fitr 2026 on Friday. The festival arrives at a time of heightened regional tensions, with Iranian attacks on Gulf nations continuing for nearly three weeks in response to joint US-Israel strikes that began on February 28. Ahead of the celebrations, Abu Dhabi Police and the Abu Dhabi Civil Defence Authority have issued a set of preventive and safety guidelines, urging residents to remain cautious during the holiday period.

  • Remain attentive and reduce speed, especially in residential areas
  • Give right of way to emergency response vehicles
  • Refrain from using or handling fireworks
  • Drive responsibly and avoid stunts or reckless behaviour
  • Do not allow children to play near roads or cross streets without supervision

The guidelines are part of a broader proactive plan that includes increased security and traffic patrols across main roads, key areas, public gathering spaces, shopping centres and public parks. With large crowds expected during Eid, the measures aim to maintain safety while allowing residents to celebrate the occasion without disruption.
