Tata Sierra bags full 5 stars in BNCAP crash tests: Details

The Tata Sierra SUV has secured a full five stars in Bharat NCAP crash tests. The SUV scored 31.14 out of 32 for adult occupant protection and 44.73 out of 49 for child occupant safety. The tests were conducted on the Accomplished+ and Adventure+ diesel variants, with the resulting safety ratings applicable across all versions of the SUV. The new Sierra is offered in seven variants, namely – Smart Plus, Pure, Pure Plus, Adventure, Adventure Plus, Accomplished and Accomplished Plus.

For child occupant protection, the Sierra scored 44.73 out of 49

The Tata Sierra scored 31.14 out of 32 for adult occupant protection in BNCAP crash tests, including 15.14 out of 16 in the frontal offset deformable barrier test. In this test, protection for the driver’s head, neck, pelvis, thighs and feet was rated ‘good’, while the chest and tibia were rated ‘adequate’. For the co-driver, all key areas received a ‘good’ rating except the right tibia, which was marked ‘adequate’. In side impact tests, including the movable deformable barrier and pole impact assessments, protection for the head, chest, abdomen and pelvis of both occupants was rated ‘good’.For child occupant protection, the Sierra scored 44.73 out of 49, with 23.73 out of 24 in the dynamic test and full marks of 12 out of 12 for child restraint system installation. Both the 18-month-old and 3-year-old dummies were tested in rear-facing seats. The younger dummy scored 7.73 out of 8 in the frontal test, while the older dummy scored 8 out of 8. Both recorded full marks of 4 out of 4 in side impact tests. The SUV scored 9 out of 13 in the vehicle assessment category, resulting in a total of 44.73 out of 49 for child occupant protection.

In terms of safety, the Tata Sierra gets six airbags, ISOFIX anchors, an electronic parking brake and all-wheel disc brakes come as standard, along with hill-hold assist. The SUV also offers a 360-degree camera, front parking sensors, ABS with EBD and a Level 2+ ADAS suite with 22 features. Feature highlights include iRA connected car technology with snapdragon chip and 5G connectivity, OTA updates, 12.3-inch passenger display, 10.5-inch centre and digital instrument cluster, 12 speaker JBL sound system with a sound bar and Dolby Atmos, 18 JBL sound modes, connected car tech, ventilated and powered driver front seats with memory function, powered tailgate with gesture function, adjustable thigh support, boss mode, rear sunshade, two step reclining rear seats, Arcade appstore, HypAR HUD display, dual zone automatic climate control, panoramic sunroof, mood lighting, a wireless charging pad, rear window sunshades, a 360-degree camera.Talking about the engine options next, the new Sierra is offered with three engine options – a 1.5-litre Kryotec turbo diesel with 118 hp of power and 280 nm torque. Another two engines are the newly developed 1.5-litre NA petrol with 106 hp power and 145 nm torque and a 1.5-litre Hyperion turbo petrol engine with 160 hp power and 260 nm torque.
