Ottawa police seek Indian man wanted in sexual assault case; suspect reportedly wore black turban

Police in Canada are asking the public to help identify an Indian man wanted in connection with an alleged sexual assault in Ottawa last year. The Ottawa Police Service said the incident took place on November 29, 2025, at around 4.04 pm at a business located on March Road near Maxwell Bridge Road.According to police, a woman was sexually assaulted at the location. Investigators have now released a description of the suspect and are seeking information that could help identify him.Police described the suspect as “an East Indian man, approximately 30 to 40 years old with a medium build with a salt and pepper beard.”Authorities said that at the time of the incident, the man was wearing a black turban, a grey and black plaid jacket, black jeans and white and black high-top shoes.Investigators from the Ottawa Police Service are continuing to look into the case and have appealed to members of the public who may have information to come forward.Anyone with information about the suspect or the incident has been asked to contact the West Criminal Investigations Section. In June 2024, Uday Jaswal, an Indian-origin former senior officer, was charged with one count of sexual assault related to an alleged incident that occurred in 2011 in Ottawa. Investigators stated they had reasonable grounds to believe the offence occurred while Jaswal was serving as an inspector with the police service. The allegation involves a woman connected to the police organization at the time. After the charge was laid, Jaswal was arrested and later released on conditions, including a requirement not to communicate with the complainant and to stay at least 100 metres away from her. He was also ordered not to possess firearms or weapons and to surrender any such items in his possession.
