3rd extension in UP SIR: 1 more month for filing claims

NEW DELHI: Election Commission has approved a one-month extension of the deadline for filing claims and objections against the Uttar Pradesh draft electoral rolls published on Jan 6 as part of phase-2 of the special intensive revision of voters’ list.The state’s final electoral rolls will now be published on April 10 instead of March 6.

This is the third extension of SIR timeframe for UP. On Dec 11 last year, EC had deferred publication of the state’s draft roll from Dec 26 to Dec 31. It later extended this deadline to Jan 6, while allowing claims and objections to be accepted from Jan 6 to Feb 6.In a notification Thursday, EC said it considered UP chief electoral officer’s request for extension, and “on consideration of other relevant factors”, decided to grant time for filing claims and objections up to March 6. The earlier deadline was Feb 6.UP SIR: Disposal of claims, objections to continue till Mar 27As per the latest schedule, the duration of notice phase, decision on enumeration forms and disposal of claims and objections filed in UP will continue till March 27. Checking of health parameters of the roll would be completed by April 3, followed by final publication of the roll on April 10.The previous schedule allowed filing of claims and objections in the state till Feb 6, and notice period and disposal of claims and objections were allowed till Feb 27. It had scheduled final publication of roll on March 6.
