'Young Sherlock' trailer: Hero Fiennes Tiffin turns crime-solving detective in Guy Ritchie's origins series

Hero Fiennes Tiffin is stepping into the shoes of the iconic crime-solving detective, Sherlock Holmes in the new series ‘Young Sherlock’. The new trailer of the Guy Ritchie directorial dropped online and it reimagines the legendary detective’s origins story with a bold, bloody and action-packed story.

Hero Fiennes Tiffin takes on role of ‘Young Sherlock’

Touted to be “an irreverent, action-packed mystery,” the series traces the Sherlock’s early years, long before he becomes the famed detective of Baker Street. According to the official press release, the eight-part series “charts the origin story of Sherlock Holmes in an irreverent, action-laden mystery that follows the iconic detective’s early adventures.”Set in 1870s Oxford and extending across international locations, the show introduces Holmes as a raw and unfiltered young man who is inevitably ‘set up’ in a murder case. As per the series official synopsis, ‘His first ever case unravels a globe-trotting conspiracy, culminating in an explosive showdown that changes his life forever. Unfolding in 1870s Oxford and adventuring abroad, the series will expose the early antics of the anarchic adolescent who is yet to evolve into Baker Street’s most renowned resident.‘

‘Young Sherlock’ cast and release date

Alongside Fiennes Tiffin in the titular role, the ensemble cast includes Donal Finn, Zine Tseng, Joseph Fiennes, Natascha McElhone, Max Irons and Colin Firth. All eight episodes of Young Sherlock are set to premiere on March 4, 2026.Guy Ritchie returns to direct ‘Sherlock Holmes’Ritchie directs the first two episodes and also serves as an executive producer on the series. The director previously helmed the successful Sherlock films released in 2009 and 2011, starring Downey Jr. as Holmes and Jude Law as Dr John Watson. The first film grossed an estimated USD 524 million worldwide against a USD 90 million budget, while the sequel, ‘Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows’, earned over USD 543 million worldwide against a USD 125 million budget.

‘Sherlock Homes 3’ on the cards

The series arrives amid buzz about Robert Downey Jr’s possible return to as Sherlock Holmes in the third part of the film’s franchise. According to industry insider Daniel Richtman, ‘Sherlock Holmes 3’ is reportedly back in development, with RDJ expected to reprise his role for a third time. However, work on the film will begin only after the actor wraps up work on his ‘Avengers’ films – ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’.
