Volkswagen Virtus facelift spied testing: New design, changes & more

Volkswagen India is all set to reveal the new Volkswagen Taigun facelift in the Indian market on April 9, 2026. Next in line after the Taigun is the updated Volkswagen Virtus sedan. And now, the updated sedan has been spied testing on Indian roads. First introduced in 2022, the model is set to receive its first mid-cycle update. Heavily camouflaged, the test mule conceals most of its design changes.

The overall silhouette and sides of the sedan look the same; however, it’s expected to get major design changes at the front and rear. It will feature revised front and rear bumpers, fresh LED lighting graphics, and new interior features. The sedan now features a sleeker grille flanked by new LED headlamps and LED DRLs. It’s expected to get connecting lamps on both ends and an illuminated Volkswagen logo. The side profile remains largely unchanged from the current model, and the alloy wheel design too remains the same. However, it’s expected to get a new alloy wheel design, and the spied model also features all-wheel disc brakes. Elements such as conventional door handles, body-coloured ORVMs, blacked-out B-pillars, roof rails and a shark-fin antenna are expected to continue unchanged. At the rear, updates are likely to include a reworked boot lid, slimmer tail-lamp housing, and other subtle styling enhancements.

Moving inside, changes are expected to be minimal, limited largely to updated upholstery. On the features front, it is likely to gain a fully digital instrument cluster, a redesigned steering wheel, ventilated front seats and a host of additional upgrades. Mechanically, it is expected to continue unchanged, retaining the same set of engine options. Just like the Kushaq, Volkswagen is expected to introduce an 8-speed torque-converter automatic transmission for the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, replacing the earlier 6-speed unit. Another engine is a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, turbo petrol.Image: Rushlane/Instagram
