Dwarka eway accident, student injured

Gurgaon: A first-year BTech student from Amity University was injured after a speeding van overturned on Dwarka Expressway.Arpita Vashisht, 18, a resident of Sangam Vihar in Delhi, suffered multiple injuries when the accident took place on the morning of April 9 while she was travelling to college in Pachgaon. She was later admitted to Fortis Hospital for treatment. In her complaint, Arpita stated that she boarded the white Maruti Eeco van (DL-3CC-O-1012) with her friends Bhagyashree, Jatin and Krishnanshu from Satsang Bhawan in Sangam Vihar at 8.30am.She alleged that as the van approached the U-turn towards the Dwarka Expressway near Rajiv Chowk, the driver, identified as Sunny, began rushing and swerving despite repeated requests from passengers to slow down. “The driver did not listen and continued to drive recklessly. Suddenly, he applied the brakes, the rear tyre burst and the vehicle overturned,” she said.Arpita, who was in the rear seat, suffered injuries from the waist down. She was rushed to the hospital by her friend Jatin.Police said they received information after she was admitted to the hospital, following which an officer reached the facility. However, doctors declared her unfit for a statement at the time. After doctors gave permission, her statement was recorded the next day. ASI Nishant, an investigating officer in the case, said there were five van occupants but only Arpita suffered injuries because she was in the rear seat. “The accident happened because of the tyre burst. We have already contacted the driver of the van and he will be arrested soon,” he said.Talking to TOI, Arpita’s mother said that her daughter is unable to move due to several injuries to her lower body and has a fractured leg. “She is in acute pain and is undergoing treatment,” she said.Based on the complaint and medical records, a case has been registered at Sector 37 police station under BNS sections 125(A) (act endangering human lives) and 281 (rash driving) against the driver.
