Vaishno Devi Shrine Board approves first-of-its-kind Shakti museum, sound-and-light show to transform Katra

The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board has set out an ambitious roadmap to transform Katra into a clean, vibrant town equipped with modern infrastructure, aimed at improving the quality of life for residents and enhancing the experience of millions of pilgrims who visit the holy shrine every year, as newsonair reported.Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, who also serves as Chairman of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, said the Board has decided to contribute directly to Katra’s transformation, recognising the city’s global visibility due to its association with the shrine.

Chairing a meeting of the Shrine Board, the Lieutenant Governor said that the abode of Mata Vaishno Devi has placed Katra on the global spiritual map, bringing with it a responsibility to ensure world-class facilities, cleanliness, and sustainable development in the region. He said a series of high-impact decisions have been taken to transform the shrine and its surrounding areas into one of India’s most vibrant and respected spiritual destinations, earning recognition worldwide.Read more: This Caribbean destination is looking to hire a Chief Relaxation Officer to nap eight hours, relax, and spot rare island species Among the major initiatives taken by the Shrine Board is to establish an international museum associated with the spiritual heritage of Maa Shakti. The museum is intended to become a major cultural and spiritual landmark in the region, enabling pilgrims and visitors generally to gain insight into the spiritual significance of the shrine. The Board has also approved the creation of a sound-and-light spectacle, modelled on globally renowned pilgrimage destinations. The show is expected to narrate the story of Mata Vaishno Devi and the region’s spiritual legacy, while adding a new experiential dimension for pilgrims visiting Katra. Similarly, the Shrine Board has approved the production of a documentary on the Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine for coverage of its spiritual, cultural, and historical significance, presenting it to more national and international audiences.

Addressing employment and human resource needs, Sinha said the Shrine Board has decided to fill vacant positions, with the recruitment process set to begin shortly. The move is expected to strengthen the Board’s operational capacity while creating employment opportunities in the region. In a similar initiative targeting society, the board approved coaching center establishment to offer free NEET courses to youths from various neighborhoods. The main plan is to improve access to quality coaching, thereby preparing the youths from the neighborhood to effectively compete in medical entrance examinations.Read more: Anand Mahindra asks how to make this spot in Mumbai more visited; here’s why it caught his attention In addition to this, the Shrine Board has approved the formulation and phasing of the implementation of a rehabilitation plan for the service providers who operate on the Mata Vaishno Devi track, including ponywallas and other stakeholders. This would be implemented in accordance with the directives laid out by the National Green Tribunal. To further strengthen pilgrimage management, the Board has constituted a committee to assess strategies for expanding pilgrimage numbers, improving crowd management, and enhancing the overall pilgrim experience. The committee will submit its recommendations to the Shrine Board for consideration and implementation. In a significant push to boost the regional economy, the Shrine Board has resolved to prioritise procurement from self-help groups, women, and young local entrepreneurs. This policy is aimed at ensuring that economic benefits generated by pilgrimage activities flow directly to local communities.Another decision taken by the Board is with regards to Mata Vaishno Devi’s offerings: local sourcing is to take place, and this will channel funds into the local economy. Sinha said these decisions reflect the Shrine Board’s commitment to sustainable development, inclusive growth, and improved infrastructure, while preserving the sanctity and spiritual character of the Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine. Furthermore, he said that the Board’s initiatives are also directed not only to providing facilitation to pilgrims but also to securing long-term economic benefits for the people of Katra and surrounding areas.
