Triumph to introduce new 350cc motorcycles in April 2026: Details

Triumph Motorcycles India will introduce its new 350cc motorcycles in the Indian market in April 2026. The timeline was confirmed by Rajiv Bajaj, Managing Director of Bajaj Auto, during an interview with CNBC TV18. The new 350cc platform will underpin Triumph’s India-made line-up, including the Speed 400, Scrambler 400 and Speed T4. This new engine is expected to be based on the existing 400cc unit, with a reduced bore to lower capacity, while retaining the same stroke. The shift to a lower displacement is to help the company price the motorcycles more competitively. There is no confirmation on whether the 400cc models will be phased out after the 350cc range is introduced. However, Triumph will continue manufacturing the 400cc bikes in India for export markets. This move is to benefit Bajaj Auto, as Triumph Motorcycles’ current small-capacity range falls above the 350cc threshold and attracts 40 per cent GST. Models under 350cc qualify for the lower 18 per cent GST slab, which would allow the motorcycles to be priced more competitively.

The downsizing is also expected to reduce peak output by 3-5hp compared to the current engine used by Triumph Motorcycles. The existing 399cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled unit produces 40hp and 37.5Nm in most models, with the Triumph Thruxton 400 receiving a 2hp increase. This similar approach may be considered for the KTM 390 range and Bajaj Auto’s Dominar 400 and NS400Z, though no timeline has been announced. The Triumph Speed and Scrambler 400 is powered by a 398.15cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled motor that puts out 40 hp and 37.5 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox. The Thruxton 400 too is powered by the same 398cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine from the Speed and Scrambler 400. But here, it’s been tuned to produce more power. It now delivers 42hp, up by 2hp with peak power coming in at 9,000rpm, which is 1,000rpm higher than the original. Torque stays the same at 37.5NmSource: CNBC TV18
