The dispute over the Rs 30,000 crore RK Family Trust has turned into a high-stakes legal battle. Rani has challenged Priya’s actions, including her removal from the trust. She reiterated that she will fight till the end to protect what her husband and son built.Rani Kapur, the mother of late businessman Sunjay Kapur, who was Karisma Kapoor‘s ex husband, has now spoken about the ongoing legal battle with her daughter-in-law Priya S Kapur over the RK Family Trust.
In an interview with Hindustan Times, Rani Kapur expressed deep grief over losing her only son. She made it clear she will not allow Priya to take control of the family’s assets and properties.Rani also shared how the dispute has affected her daily life and also revealed her close bond with Sunjay’s ex-wife Karisma Kapoor and their children.
Rani Kapur’s grief after losing son
Rani Kapur described the period after Sunjay’s death in June 2025 as extremely traumatic. She said, “It’s been a very difficult time for the family, very traumatic for me. I lost my only son. I was always with him, I was living with him. We went on holidays. I was with him in the UK when he passed. I’m very emotional and very upset about it. I have to take sleeping pills at night to sleep, thinking about what we have, what my son has done.” She added that the family is still struggling to cope with the sudden loss.
Dispute over family assets
Rani firmly stated that she will not let Priya take over everything her husband and son built. Speaking about the Sona Group and the family home in Delhi, she said, “My husband built the factory and the work… the house was my own creation, and she now thinks that she owns everything, which is not going to happen as long as I am alive. I’m not going to let her do that.”She emphasised that the RK Family Trust was created by her husband and should remain unchanged.
Faith in the legal system
The Kapur matriarch expressed sadness over Sunjay’s marriage to Priya but chose to trust the Indian legal system. She said, “It’s sad that he married this girl. That’s all she wanted. And now she thinks that she can take over. It’s not possible. There is a law in this country. The law exists, and I have to have her out of my life.” Rani mentioned she is currently living in Mumbai and has not been allowed to return to her Delhi home to collect her belongings.
Bond with Karisma Kapoor and grandchildren
Despite the current family tension, Rani shared that she continues to share a warm relationship with Sunjay’s ex-wife Karisma Kapoor and their children Samaira and Kiaan. She said, “I’ve always had a good relationship with Karisma; she has grown up in this house. The girls have grown up together… I still meet her all the time. I go on holidays with her and the kids… I love Samaira and Kiaan; they are my grandchildren.”
