Sunjay Kapur's mother Rani Kapur breaks silence after Priya Sachdev Kapur removed her from RK family trust amidst Rs 30,000 crore inheritence battle

Ever since the demise of Sunjay Kapur in June last year, there’s been a legal dispute regarding his Rs 30,000 crore inheritance between his mother Rani Kapur and widowed wife Priya Sachdev. As per the latest update, Rani was removed from the RK family trust by Priya. Now in a recent interview, Rani has opened her heart regarding the ongoing family dispute, calling it both deeply personal and emotionally exhausting. She said she is still grieving the loss of her son. She shared that she had relocated from Mumbai to Delhi when the family business was established there and had played an active role in building both their home and the company. According to her, things remained steady until her son, Sunjay Kapur, became involved with Priya Kapur, after which circumstances began to change. She said in an interview with ANI, “It’s very hurtful for me because my husband made this trust (RK family trust) and gave everything to me. This girl (Priya Kapur) tried to take over everything my husband built all his life. We moved from Bombay to Delhi, we built the house. That house I have built sitting under a tree. She thinks she’s got it. Luckily, I have this house and I’ve been away from Delhi since my son died. I’ve not gone back. I’m scared now. What is she going to do to me?…I don’t know what she is going to do to get the wealth and it’s all my husband’s work. Nobody else’s. My son took over because he’s the son. That’s it…I don’t want her near that place.”Rani further alleged that soon after her son’s death, Priya began asserting control over the business. She maintained that the company is the result of her husband’s lifelong efforts and said she cannot accept claims from someone who became part of her son’s life only in recent years. On the possibility of a settlement, she said no discussions have taken place so far and indicated that a resolution does not seem likely anytime soon. Reflecting on the emotional toll, she described the months following her son’s passing as traumatic and revealed that she has not returned to their Delhi home since. She also noted that no one from the other side has reached out to her. From a legal standpoint, her counsel, Senior Advocate Vaibhav Gaggar, stated that Rani Kapur has challenged the RK Family Trust in court, arguing that it was created without her knowledge or consent. He clarified that there is currently no court order restraining the trust from functioning.Explaining her legal position, he said that as the settlor, she has the authority under the trust deed to remove a trustee without providing reasons, particularly in order to protect the estate. He added that any decisions regarding trustees require her approval, and without her signature, such actions are not valid.Rani Kapur has also issued a fresh notice directing Priya Kapur to cease acting as a trustee, asserting that her removal has already taken effect after the notice period. She has also dismissed attempts to remove her from the trust, calling them legally untenable.
