Sly Dunbar, the famed reggae drummer, part of the famous duo Sly & Robbie, has passed away.The musician was reportedly found unresponsive by his wife at his home in Kingston, Jamaica, on Monday. He was 73.

As reported by Jamaican news outlet The Gleaner, the musician’s wife, Thelma, confirmed the news in an official satement. As reported by TMZ, the star’s family asked for privacy during this tough moment in their life.The statement read, “As one half of Sly & Robbie, Sly helped shape the sound of reggae and Jamaican music for generations. His extraordinary talent, innovation, and lasting contributions will never be forgotten. Sly’s music, spirit, and legacy touched people around the world, and we are deeply grateful for the love and support during this difficult time.”The cause of his demise was not confirmed in the report.

Dunbar was known as one of the pioneers of the reggae genre and was credited with helping it grow on a global level. Lowell Fillmore Dunbar was influenced by rich culture and music from an early age as he was born in Kingston. His first major breakthrough in the music industry came with ‘Double Barrel’, where he played the drums for Dave and Ansel Collins, which became a huge hit in the UK. He was a teenager at the time.He also worked with Robbie Shakespeare in the duo Sly and Robbie and released a number of albums. Their first album, titled ‘Sly and Robbie Present Taxi’, came out in 1981 and was a huge hit in the country at the time. The duo worked together for most of their lives, and even worked as producers for many famous songs.Sly Dunbar worked on creating music for singers like Madonna, Chaka Demus & Pliers, No Doubt, and The Rolling Stones.
