BAREILLY: A 38-year-old man was dragged for nearly 8-km after his body got stuck between the front wheels of a car bearing a “UP govt” sticker in Budaun on Friday evening. The man, Ghlendra Kumar, was identified through his Aadhaar found in his pocket, police said, adding the body was severely mutilated, skin and flesh torn off and bones exposed, indicating he was perhaps tugged for a long time by the vehicle.Kumar, a father of four, belonged to Rampur Majra village in Bilsi area. His body was later found on the road near Lalpul crossing under Kotwali limits. The car was being driven by Parvendra Pratap Singh, a mandi committee official, a Budaun resident. Singh, who runs a fertiliser and seed shop in Asrasi under Qadarchowk, was returning home after closing his shop amid heavy rainfall. His father, Sanjay Singh, is a govt employee in the agriculture department.Parvendra told cops that he was unaware of the body stuck beneath his vehicle until another motorist overtook him at Lalpul crossing around 7:30pm and alerted him. When he stopped the vehicle, locals soon gathered at the spot and informed the police.Kotwali police reached the site, seized the car, and took Singh into custody for questioning. The body was sent for postmortem. Police said that they are currently probing whether Kumar was hit by Singh’s car or was earlier run over by another unidentified vehicle and later got stuck underneath the “govt-marked” car. CCTV footage from nearby routes is being examined, police added.City circle officer, Rajnish Kumar Upadhyay, said, “Around 8pm, we received information that a body was stuck under a car. The vehicle was seized and the driver detained. The deceased was identified and the family was informed. Further legal action is underway.”The victim’s younger brother, Pushpendra, said Kumar worked as a mason. “He went with his children to his brother-in-law’s place for a feast. Later, we received a call saying he came under a vehicle. It was raining heavily, and we don’t know what exactly happened,” Pushpendra said.
