Just weeks after news broke that he’d joined the project, the ‘Project Hail Mary’ famed Canadian superstar dropped out of the next project by TheDaniels, the director duo behind the critically acclaimed film ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’, the bonkers family dramedy that became the golden child of the 2023 Oscars.But why did Ryan Gosling walk away from the much-awaited project?

Why did Ryan Gosling leave The Daniels’ film?

Per Collider, Directors Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, the duo behind ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’, had everyone excited about their untitled follow-up. Ryan Gosling’s involvement seemed like a sure bet for box office gold, but it didn’t last.Turns out, Gosling had to step back because his schedule just couldn’t line up with the movie’s fixed production dates. Per Entertainment Weekly, The Daniels were set to film in Los Angeles in 2026, and after snagging a huge tax credit from California, they couldn’t shift the timeline. Gosling tried to make it work, but he’s got too much on his plate.

The Daniels’ film: What we know about the story

As for the project in question by The Daniels (Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert), it’s still untitled, but per EW, early word is it’s a sci-fi action comedy with plenty of heart — pretty much what you’d expect from the director duo. After their Oscar sweep with ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ in 2023, where the film picked up awards for Best Picture, Best Directing, Best Actress for Michelle Yeoh, both Best Supporting for Ke Huy Quan and Jamie Lee Curtis, and more, their new project is supposed to mix existential questions with humor and surreal moments. Although details are scarce, the anticipation of the yet-to-be-titled film is huge. The new film is aiming for a November 2027 release after some earlier delays.
