Rohit Sharma undergoes scans for suspected hamstring injury

MUMBAI: Former India and Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma has undergone a scan to assess the severity of a suspected hamstring injury, TOI has learnt. His availability for MI’s next match against Punjab Kings on Thursday in Mumbai will depend on the results.“Yes, Rohit underwent an MRI on Monday morning (at the HL Reliance Hospital) to determine the extent of his hamstring injury. If the results don’t look good, he may even miss a couple of matches. The scan results will come by today evening,” a source close to the developments told TOI.

The 38-year-old retired hurt during MI’s 18-run loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday. He walked off in the sixth over after scoring 19 off 13 balls, including two fours and a six.Before retiring hurt, Rohit was attended by the MI physio before the first ball of that over. After a brief stoppage for treatment, he returned to face the next delivery, blocked it, and then left the field.Rohit has had hamstring concerns in the past. “I’m not entirely sure yet – perhaps it’s a bit of a hamstring issue – but I can’t say for certain. I was in the dugout, so I don’t have much information on it,” teammate Sherfane Rutherford said after the match.Rohit, who recently completed 15 years with MI, has scored 137 runs in four matches, including a half-century. His presence will be crucial for the side, who have lost three of their first four games.
