Free-agent right-handed reliever Seranthony Domínguez has reached an agreement on a two-year, $20 million deal with the White Sox, reports say, which represents a nice step towards stabilizing their bullpen. Pending a physical, it is expected to be completed soon and will mark the addition of an experienced late-inning arm to a team that attempted to bounce back after a brutal 2025 season.Domínguez is one of the more experienced bullpen arms to hit the free-agent market and should step into a significant role right away. For a White Sox team that found itself blowing numerous games in the late innings a year ago, this reinforces the emphasis on deepening the pitching staff and on restoring the value in high-leverage situations as the organization rebuilds its core heading past the present day.

Seranthony Domínguez brings late-inning stability to Chicago

The 31-year-old right-hander split the 2025 season between the Baltimore Orioles and Toronto Blue Jays, making 67 appearances with a 3.16 ERA. Domínguez, long considered a reliable bullpen option when healthy, is known to throw a fastball that can reach upwards of 100 mph as well as a strong slider. He has playoff experience, albeit from earlier in his career. The Cubs will likely use Domínguez in high-leverage situations right away, and he could also ultimately be the closer. The White Sox had issues holding leads late last year, and with his ability to avoid hard contact and miss bats, Domínguez is a good fit at the back end of a game. He should also provide some leadership in a now more-or-less entirely new bullpen.

White Sox continue reshaping roster for 2026 push

Domínguez’s signing is part of an overall offseason approach to restore depth while remaining competitive in the American League Central. The White Sox parted ways with a number of respected names earlier in the winter, but the intention remained narrow in scope rather than time-bound for a complete rebuild. Not only that, but the front office has also been active in shoring up both the pitching staff and lineup over the past couple of seasons, blending short-term veterans with longer-term investments. The intention seems to be striking a balance, keeping contention light on its feet, while also providing younger players with a firmer foundation from which to develop.
