'Pirates of the Caribbean' reboot: Johnny Depp's return teased as focus shifts to Jack Sparrow’s son

It may soon be time to set sail again on an epic adventure with the upcoming ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ reboot. Months after the makers teased a new film to take the franchise forward, it appears that the movie in question will intent to reboot the franchise with plans pointing toward a generational shift. According to industry insider Jeff Sneider, the project that has long been on the back burner, will finally be moving forward as a soft reboot rather than a continuation of previous films.

Next Pirates film to focus on Jack Sparrow’s son

While there have been questions about Johnny Depp returning as the famed Captain Jack Sparrow, reports state that the new film, instead of centring on the iconic character, will reportedly focus on Sparrow’s son as the lead character, introducing a new generation of pirates and a revised creative direction.

Margot Robbie to star in leading role

While no cast has been officially announced, several high-profile names have rumoured to be in the running for the roles, including Margot Robbie, Ayo Edebiri, Austin Butler and Hailee Steinfeld. Robbie, who was previously attached to play the lead in a female-led Pirates spin-off that was eventually shelved, is now said to be among the frontrunners in the revival franchise. While her role may still be unconfirmed, she is expected to play a significant part in the new franchise.Oscar-nominated screenwriter Krysty Wilson-Cairns, known for her work on films like ‘1917’ and ‘Last Night in Soho’, is reportedly in talks to write the script, potentially teasing a female-led approach.

Pirates film not shelved

Depp’s involvement in the film remains uncertain, with no official confirmation that the actor will return. The star was set to return to play the Captain until his case with ex-wife Amber Heard, derailed the project.Previously, producer Jerry Bruckheimer also confirmed that he had spoken with the actor and believes he could return as Captain Jack Sparrow, depending on the script. He also confirmed that the long-delayed sixth Pirates of the Caribbean film is still in active development and that Margot remains attached to the project.
