VIJAYAWADA: A woman in Chiluvur village, Andhra Pradesh, allegedly killed her husband with the help of her boyfriend after lacing his biryani with sleeping tablets. After he became unconscious, the boyfriend reportedly held him down while she suffocated him with a pillow. She is said to have spent the rest of the night in the room with his body before raising a false alarm that he had died of a heart attack. How events unfolded:

  • Shivanagaraju, an onion trader married to Madhuri since 2007, and father of two sons, reportedly became a target after Madhuri developed a relationship with Gopi, a native of Sattenapalli. Police said Madhuri viewed her husband as an obstacle to her affair.
  • On the night of 18 January, Madhuri allegedly mixed around 20 sleeping tablets into the biryani she prepared for her husband.
  • After Shivanagaraju became unconscious, Gopi arrived at the house around 11.30pm. Police said he sat on the victim’s chest while Madhuri suffocated him with a pillow, killing him.
  • Following the murder, Gopi reportedly left the house. Madhuri allegedly spent the rest of the night in the room with her husband’s body, watching porn videos.
  • In the early morning, Madhuri raised an alarm, claiming that Shivanagaraju had died of a heart attack.
  • Relatives grew suspicious when they noticed injuries and bleeding from the victim’s ear. A post-mortem later confirmed death due to suffocation.
  • Madhuri was arrested, and Gopi has been detained. Police said further investigation is underway.
