Most electric vehicles come with battery management systems that prevent extreme charging and discharging, but regularly keeping the battery fully charged may affect long-term health. Experts suggest maintaining the battery within a moderate charge range rather than always aiming for a full charge, as this helps improve overall battery life and performance. -Charging habits also play an important role. Fast charging can be useful when time is limited, especially during long trips, but relying on it too often can put extra stress on the battery. High-speed charging generates more heat, which may impact battery health over time. For everyday use, slower or standard charging methods are generally considered better for preserving the battery.
-EV owners who do not use their vehicles regularly should pay special attention to battery levels during storage. Keeping the battery either fully charged or completely empty for long periods can lead to faster degradation. A practical approach is to maintain the charge in a mid-range window, typically between 25 per cent and 75 per cent, to help protect battery condition. For longer parking periods, maintaining a charge level close to 50 per cent is often recommended. -Temperature also affects battery performance. Very hot or extremely cold conditions can reduce efficiency and impact long-term durability. Parking the vehicle in shaded or covered areas during hot weather can help reduce heat exposure, while avoiding extreme cold conditions when possible can also be beneficial. -Keeping the vehicle’s software updated is another simple but important step.
