Iceland Cricket has taken aim at the Pakistan Cricket Board through a series of sarcastic posts on social media over the past week, reacting to developments linked to the ICC T20 World Cup.In its latest post, Iceland Cricket said that even if Pakistan were to pull out of the tournament now, Iceland would not be in a position to replace them, citing a lack of time to prepare.In a sarcastic post on X, Iceland Cricket wrote: “It is with a heavy heart that we now announce our unavailability to replace Pakistan in the upcoming T20 World Cup. Regardless of whether they now withdraw, the short timescales ensure it is impossible for our squad to prepare in the professional manner necessary to compete effectively in this global cricketing spectacle. We are not like Scotland and able to turn up on a whim, with no kit sponsor.“The post further explained the background of its players and their commitments outside cricket. “Our players are from all walks of life and cannot simply drop their occupations to fly halfway around the world to experience temperatures only normally felt in Finnish saunas. Our captain, a professional baker, needs to attend to his oven, our ship captain needs to steer his vessel, and our bankers need to go bankrupt (again). This is the harsh reality of cricket at the amateur level of the game,” the post said.“This news will be extremely disappointing to our fans. Iceland Cricket also mentioned Uganda in the same post and said Pakistan’s absence, if it happens, could benefit them. “Our loss is likely Uganda’s gain. We wish them well. Their kits cannot be missed unless you have epilepsy, in which case they are probably best avoided,” it added.Meanwhile, the Pakistan Cricket Board, led by Mohsin Naqvi, is expected to make a final decision on Friday. Reports say the Pakistan team has already booked its travel plans and will travel to Colombo along with the Australian team.
