Jason Holder etched his name into cricket history as West Indies began their T20 World Cup 2026 campaign with a memorable win over Scotland. The former captain became the first West Indies bowler to claim 100 T20I wickets, reaching the landmark in the 13.2 over when he dismissed Scotland skipper Richie Berrington.Holder now joins an elite list of players with 100 wickets in each format of men’s internationals, alongside Lasith Malinga, Tim Southee, Shakib Al Hasan, Shaheen Afridi and Jasprit Bumrah.

The historic moment came in a match that had plenty to celebrate for the West Indies, who were playing their first game of the T20 World Cup 2026. Scotland won the toss and chose to bowl first. West Indies made a slow start but recovered strongly to post 182 for 5 in 20 overs.Shimron Hetmyer, batting at number three, played the defining innings. The left-hander struck 64 off 36 balls and also recorded the fastest fifty by a West Indies batter in a T20 World Cup, reaching the milestone in just 22 balls.Scotland’s chase never truly took off. They were eventually bowled out for 147 in 18.5 overs, with the decisive moment arriving in the 17th over. Romario Shepherd produced a stunning spell, taking four wickets in the over, including a hat-trick. Shepherd went on to finish with outstanding figures of 3-0-20-5.Jason Holder fittingly sealed the contest by taking the final wicket of the match, bringing Scotland’s innings to an end and rounding off a landmark night for both himself and West Indies cricket.
