NBEMS scripts Guinness history with 17,999 doctors tuning in for AI healthcare masterclass

The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) secured official recognition from Guinness World Records for hosting the largest live-streamed lesson on Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare on YouTube.A peak of 17,999 viewers logged in simultaneously for the online session, setting a new world record in the category of “Most viewers of an Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare lesson live stream on YouTube.”

Six-month national programme, no fee charged

The livestream was part of a broader, structured AI training programme developed exclusively for registered medical practitioners across the country. The initiative was conceived under the leadership of Dr Abhijat Sheth, President of NBEMS and Chairman of the National Medical Commission (NMC).Spread across six months, the course comprises 20 modules delivered by faculty from leading institutions, including Harvard University (USA), IIM Lucknow and IISc Bengaluru. NBEMS has not charged any fee for participation, positioning the programme as a national capacity-building effort rather than a revenue-driven exercise. The digital academic drive was planned and executed by Dr Rakesh Sharma, Governing Body Member of NBEMS, and Dr. AVS Suresh from Hyderabad, along with the NBEMS team and AI experts from India and overseas.

Record verified after formal scrutiny

The record attempt was formally adjudicated by Swapnil Dangarikar, an appointed judge from Guinness World Records. After reviewing technical metrics and compliance data, the adjudicating team confirmed the achievement.Officials described the turnout as unprecedented for a specialised medical education session focused on artificial intelligence.

‘Not just about numbers’: Dr Sheth

Dr Abhijat Sheth, President of NBEMS, said the milestone reflects a wider push towards digital integration in healthcare training.“This achievement draws inspiration from the visionary leadership of Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, who has always emphasised on digital India, technological innovation, and the responsible adoption of artificial intelligence in governance and public service,” Dr Sheth said as quoted by press release. He added, “I also express my heartfelt gratitude to the Union Health Minister Shri J P Nadda, MOHFW officers, faculty members, academic partners, and participating doctors whose collective effort made this achievement possible.”
