Mumbai University postpones 28 third-year exams after clash with CET schedule: Check details here

The University of Mumbai has postponed several third-year undergraduate examinations after their dates clashed with the Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test (CET) schedule. The university has now issued a revised timetable to ensure that students appearing for both university examinations and entrance tests do not face scheduling conflicts. The decision comes after concerns were raised by students who found that multiple semester examinations coincided with key CET entrance tests scheduled between late March and early April. In response, the university has rescheduled 28 examination papers across various undergraduate courses.

CET entrance tests trigger exam schedule conflict

The CET examination cycle will begin with the bachelor of education entrance test scheduled for March 27. This will be followed by the master of computer applications entrance examination on March 30.The three-year law CET is slated to be conducted on April 1 and April 2. Meanwhile, the entrance examinations for master of business administration and masters in management studies programmes will take place between April 6 and April 8.Several third-year examinations in the arts, commerce and science streams were earlier scheduled on these dates, resulting in an overlap that could have affected students planning to appear for both university papers and entrance tests.

Students flag overlapping exam dates

Students from multiple colleges had raised concerns about the clash, noting that the overlapping schedule could force them to choose between their final-year university examinations and crucial entrance tests required for admission to professional and postgraduate programmes. While the University of Mumbai had released its academic calendar earlier, the CET Cell had announced tentative entrance test dates in November last year. With the CET schedule now finalised, the university decided to modify its examination timetable to avoid the conflict.

28 examination papers rescheduled

According to the revised schedule, the fifth-semester bachelor of commerce examination originally scheduled for March 27 will now be conducted on April 4.Examinations for third-year bachelor of arts, third-year bachelor of science, third-year bachelor of science in computer science, and third-year bachelor of arts in multimedia and mass communication that were earlier planned for March 27 will now be held on April 9. Certain papers from the university’s distance and online education department scheduled on the same day have also been moved to April 9.

Further changes extend into mid-April

Papers earlier scheduled for March 30 will now take place on April 10. Examinations that were planned for April 1, April 2 and April 4 have been rescheduled to April 11, April 13 and April 15 respectively.Additionally, some sixth-semester science and mass communication examinations that were earlier set for April 8 will now be conducted on April 16. The revised timetable aims to ensure that students can appear for both university examinations and CET entrance tests without disruption.
