In a joint Vogue interview with Anna Wintour, she said one thing keeps her grounded, both as an actor and as a grandmother: “You can’t get anything back.”For Streep, time is everything. The older she gets, the more she feels it slipping through her fingers, especially when she’s with her grandkids. She talked about this in the interview, saying she tries to grab every second she can with her family, even with a schedule that would exhaust most people. She quoted, “It’s just grabbing seconds, just grabbing everything you can of them, with the knowledge of how completely fleeting it all is and how rapidly time goes,” she told Greta Gerwig. “This is what my mother said to me, and I said, ‘Yeah, yeah.’ It’s the longest, shortest time. And you can’t get anything back. So take as much as you can… I find it divine.”
For the unversed, Streep has six grandchildren, all between the ages of 1 and 6. “I can’t even talk about how much it means to me that my kids give me as much time as they do with their kids. The only thing is that they’re on two coasts, so I’m in the airplane a lot,” she laughed.That same philosophy shapes how she works, even now. She doesn’t slow down.
