Polling preparations are underway in Puducherry for the April 9 Assembly elections, with the Election Commission stepping up safeguards, including provisions for repoll in case of deliberate disruption of webcasting at polling stations. Officials said returning officers can recommend a repoll if such interference is detected, amid concerns over possible disturbances during voting.The Union Territory’s 30-seat Assembly is witnessing a contest primarily between the ruling NDA– led by All India N.R. Congress (AINRC) and BJP — and the Congress-DMK alliance, with actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) also in the fray, seeking to make it triangular. Counting of votes will be held on May 4, and the current Assembly term is set to expire on June 15.
