‘Why didn’t anyone protect me more’: Lindsay Lohan looks back on intense media scrutiny in her younger years
As she reflects on her troubled teenage years in the public eye, Lindsay Lohan has begun to question the lack of protection she received at the height of her fame.

‘Mean Girls’ star Lindsay Lohan is looking back at her troubled years as a teen. In a recent interview, the 39-year-old reflected on her rough years growing up under intense media scrutiny. She reflected on how all of it led to a problematic adulthood with legal troubles. Lohan, who relocated to Dubai with her husband, said she “wonders why didn’t anyone protect” her more.

Lindsay Lohan feels why didn’t anyone protect her more

In the March 2026 issue of Vogue Arabia, Lindsay Lohan opened up on why the early days were so tumultuous as she wonders, “Why didn’t anyone just go and take me out of there, protect me more?” she said. “You don’t know how to do that yourself when you’re a teenager.”

It was a ‘double-edged sword’ for Lindsay Lohan

During her rise, Lindsay spent nights at Hollywood clubs that later led to arrests and legal proceedings. Now, the mom of one feels it was all “so overwhelming and consuming.” She continued, “I should have listened to my mom and dad and moved back to New York. But I was young and wanted to be in L.A. And I didn’t know. So yeah, while a lot of it was fun, it was hard when I was young. It was a double-edged sword.”

Lindsay on stepping away from Hollywood

The ‘Freaky Friday’ star also explained why she stepped away and ultimately found herself living far from the glare of Hollywood. “I wasn’t having fun in the business anymore,” she said. “I wasn’t finding roles I loved. It’s not a life I wanted to live, you know? It’s not real life. It pushed me so far away that I moved to the other side of the world. And I’m so glad I followed my gut.”

Lindsay Lohan’s balanced life in Dubai

Lohan, who moved to Dubai in 2014, feels it was the right thing to do, as it is where she met her husband Bader Shammas, with whom she welcomed a son in 2023. “We’re so good together because he’s so calm and I’m like a firecracker. We have a great balance,” she explained.
