Neetu Kapoor, born Harneet Kaur on 8 July 1958, began her career as a child artist. She debuted in the swashbuckler film ‘Suraj’ in 1966. She played a dual role in the romantic comedy ‘Do Kaliyaan’ in 1968.Karisma Kapoor recently opened up about a lesser-known moment from her aunt Neetu Kapoor’s wedding. The actress shared the story on the singing reality show, ‘Indian Idol’ where she recalled how Neetu fainted right in the middle of the ceremony due to the huge crowd and star presence.
Neetu Kapoor’s fainting incident
“Ek interesting story bhi kahi jaati hai ki itne saare stars aur itni bheed ke beech Neetu aunty shaadi mein faint ho gayi thi. Sab bahut dar gaye the,” (“There is also an interesting story that Neetu aunty fainted at the wedding amidst so many stars and such a huge crowd. Everyone got very scared.”) revealed Karisma.
The star-studded wedding of Neetu Singh and Rishi Kapoor in 1980 created quite a stir. Young Karisma attended the event and tried hard to sit near the bride. She felt excited to see so many legends in one place, “Main ek special trivia bata sakti hoon ki I was fortunate to attend Chintu uncle aur Neetu aunty ki shaadi. Main bahut koshish kar rahi thi bride ke paas baithne ke liye. I remember shaadi mein itne saare stars aaye the (“I can share a special trivia — I was fortunate to attend Chintu uncle and Neetu aunty’s wedding. I was trying my best to sit close to the bride. I remember there were so many stars at the wedding.”) . I was very young, but I was so happy because it was a family wedding and I got to see so many stars.”Karisma described the atmosphere as overwhelming yet joyful. She grew up surrounded by family legends and always felt like a fan of them all.
Neetu Kapoor’s special place
“Mere family mein itne saare legends hain ki I am a fan of all of them. I think Neetu aunty has a very special place because unmein jo chanchalpan tha, unka jo feel tha, woh alag hi kuch tha.(“In my family, there are so many legends that I am a fan of all of them. I think Neetu aunty has a very special place because the liveliness in her, that special feel she had, that was something completely different.”) Of course, she is one of the biggest legends in our family and someone I look up to even today,” Karisma said.
Fitness and eating habits
“Unka chhota sa dabba har jagah unke saath jaata hain (Her small tiffin box goes with her everywhere). She doesn’t indulge even in biryani. We always tease her, but we truly look up to her for her fitness and discipline at her age,” the actress shared“Ek bahut hi khasiyat hai hamare Kapoor family mein sab bahut khana khate hain, lekin Neetu aunty bilkul opposite hain (There is a very special thing in our Kapoor family — everyone eats a lot, but Neetu aunty is completely the opposite). She is very particular about her eating habits.”Unlike the typical Kapoor love for food, Neetu stays strict with her diet. The family often teases her tiffin routine but respects her commitment to health.
Neetu Kapoor’s film journey
Her breakthrough came with Nasir Hussain’s ‘Yaadon Ki Baaraat’ in 1973. Neetu rose to prominence with lead roles in films like Deewaar. In 2012, she was inducted into the Walk of the Stars at Bandra Bandstand in Mumbai.Neetu Kapoor’s last film was the 2022 romantic comedy-drama ‘Jugj ugg Jeeyo’.
