A long-forgotten behind-the-scenes moment from ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’ has resurfaced, and it offers a candid look at how one of the film’s most popular songs came together. Karan Johar has once again shared a behind-the-scenes moment from ‘You Are My Soniya,’ explaining how Kareena Kapoor disagreed with some of the planned choreography during the shoot. The old clip has resurfaced online and is now going viral, demonstrating how quickly famous Bollywood songs can change on set when stars and filmmakers make last-minute decisions that alter what the audience eventually sees.
Kareena Kapoor refused kekda-style dancing in ‘You Are My Soniya’
In a resurfaced interview, Karan Johar recalled how Kareena reacted when choreographer Farah Khan planned elaborate steps for ‘You Are My Soniya.’ The director said, “You Are My Soniya ke dauran (during the shoot) Farah had elaborately… cause Hrithik Roshan and Kareena… so she (Kareena) has looked and said, ‘This kekda (crab) style dancing I can’t do, put the camera here (close-up).’”Johar went on to explain how the song’s visual balance changed as a result of that decision. “So agar aap You Are My Soniya dekh lo (so if you watch You Are My Soniya), so she’s doing like this (hand movements), and he’s doing all that (leg movement). There are many times when she’s looked at the camera and said, ‘You Are My Soniya.’ Camera is not your soniya, Hrithik Roshan hai tumhare saamne (Hrithik Roshan is in front of you).”The anecdote has amused fans, especially those who remember the song for Hrithik Roshan’s energetic moves and Kareena’s confident screen presence.
‘Bole Chudiyan ‘ budget chaos on ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’ set
Another dramatic memory from the film came from Nikkhil Advani in a conversation with Radio Nasha. Speaking about ‘Bole Chudiyan,’ Advani said the film’s original budget vanished almost instantly. “I wrote Rs 3 crore. It was approved, and we were told to begin the film.”Advani recalled the chaos on the very first set. “Our very first set was for Bole Chudiyan. Karan Johar fainted on set. Kajol had issues with her lehenga (traditional skirt/bridal outfit) and couldn’t dance. There was complete chaos—200 dancers, 300 junior artists.”Advani added that Yash Johar later reviewed the numbers. “The set you’ve created has already cost more than that. He tore the paper and told us, ‘Now, you make the film!’”Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham… (K3G) was released on 14 December 2001 and featured an ensemble cast led by Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan, alongside Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Hrithik Roshan, and Kareena Kapoor, with Rani Mukerji appearing in a guest role.
