Conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), the exam continues to be the single most decisive filter for entry into the country’s top engineering colleges. The preliminary schedule indicates that the JEE Main 2026 Session 1 results might be out by the 12th of February, whereas Session 2 results are anticipated by the 20th of April. The official scorecards will be released on the NTA websites.The JEE Main 2026 scorecard presents an NTA percentile score, an All India Rank (AIR), a category-wise rank, and an indication of subject-level performance. The exam is held in several shifts, there are different levels of difficulty in each shift. To resolve this issue, NTA carries out a normalisation process. The NTA score indicates what percent of candidates scored equal to or less than a specific student in the same session. It’s not a direct copy of the marks obtained but rather a relative measure of performance.Percentile scores for Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics are computed individually, along with an overall score. These figures are the basis of the merit list. It is the percentiles that generate the rank, not the total marks, which is a point that is often misunderstood.In the case where two candidates acquire the same NTA score, the tie-breaking criteria for Paper 1 will first consider the performance in Mathematics, then Physics, and finally Chemistry. For Paper 2, Aptitude and Drawing scores come into play. If needed, negative responses and age are used to break ties.
