JAIPUR: Five youths allegedly sexually harassed a Japanese tourist in the city’s Amber area after waylaying her on a secluded stretch near Jaigarh Fort, police said Monday. DCP North Karan Sharma quoted the woman as saying the youths pushed her around, held her hands and attempted to kiss her.
The incident occurred Sunday morning when the tourist, who had arrived from Japan a few days ago, went to visit Jaigarh Fort and its surrounding hills. Around 8 am, she was accosted by five unidentified youths while walking down a relatively deserted stretch of road in the area. Police said the five youths misbehaved with the woman and sexually harassed her, forcing her to raise an alarm. She eventually managed to escape from the spot and ran towards a security guard stationed nearby. Seeing her in distress, the guard immediately phoned the police. All five accused fled the spot immediately after noticing the commotion and spotting the approaching guard. Police said CCTV footage obtained from the area captured five youths descending from the hill in a suspicious manner. Based on the footage, separate teams are scanning records of local criminals to try and identify the suspects. An FIR has been registered based on a complaint filed by the victim, and efforts are underway to trace the accused. Incidentally, a similar video that surfaced over a week ago showed some youths acting inappropriately with another foreign tourist, this time on the pretext of shooting selfies. An investigation is underway(The victim’s identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
