Indian woman killed in road crash in US, family says she could not be saved even after 3 surgeries

Indian woman, Navya Nelakuditi, died after being severely injured in a road accident near Pittsburgh.

A 23-year-old Indian woman, Navya Nelakuditi, died on April 9 while she was undergoing treatment after a car accident in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Her aunt, Sirisha Nelakudutu, who is raising funds for her body to be sent to India, said Nelakuditi died at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, where she underwent three major surgeries. Navya moved to the US last year for her Master’s degree and met with an accident while she was returning home from an internship interview in Michigan. The other passenger involved in the accident survived.“The daughter of humble farmers in India, Navya moved to the US last year for her Master’s degree. Her parents invested everything they had into her education, and she worked tirelessly with one goal: to build a career that would support them back home,” the aunt, based in Frsico, Texas, wrote in the fundraising postThe aunt said that the funds were not only for her body to be sent to India but also for the medical and ICU expenses, and to support her family in India. About $85,835 was raised out of the target of $150K in two days. In an unrelated incident, another NRI was found dead in Missouri. 26-year-old Singireddy Sai Sri Harikrishna, who had moved to the US in 2023 to pursue his Master’s degree in engineering, drowned in the Meramec River. Krisna went to Mermec State Park near Sullivan to celebrate his birthday. According to reports, when he entered the rover for a swim, he got trapped in underwater weeds that pulled him down. He struggled, went under and drowned on his birthday on April 11. His friends started a fundraiser for the family and $24,283 out of $100K has been raised so far.
