Indian Green Card holder claims 'USCIS viewing my LinkedIn profile': 'I have no criminal record'

A Green Card holder from India took to Reddit, claiming that his LinkedIn profile was being checked by someone at USCIS even though his Green Card case was closed in 2024. The Reddit post of the man claiming that it freaked him out to find out that USCIS officials are still keeping an eye on him has spread alarm at a time when the US has tightened its overall vetting processes and H-1B visa holders in India are facing stamping delays because of the newly introduced social media vetting. The North Carolina Redditor claimed his LinkedIn profile was first viewed by a case officer and then by lawyers. The man said he came to the US in 2015 on an F-1 student visa and then got into STEM OPT until he was picked up by the H-1B lottery in 2020. The man said he got married in 2021 to an Indian-origin citizen in the US and applied for a marriage-based Green Card in 2023. It was approved in January 2024 without any interview as it was a 10-year no-condition Green Card as his marriage was, by then, already over 2 years. The Redditor revealed that he has no criminal record but only a speeding ticket before his Green Card approval from 2023. He is still with his wife, he confirmed ruling out any possibility of a USCIS check in such cases if the marriage is over. Some social media users called it ‘psychological warfare on immigrant communities’, while many explained that it could have many other possible explanations like the Redditor having a very common name etc. Some analyzed that since the man is a Green Card holder and not yet a citizen, he is still on the radar of the immigration agencies. Green Card cases are on the radar of the administration as the authorities have frozen all Green Card applications from 75 countries, and are also reviewing Green Cards of people aapproved by the Biden administration from certain designated countries.
