The Indira Gandhi National Open University has extended the last date for admission to its Open and Distance Learning and Online programmes for the January 2026 session. Students can now apply till February 28, 2026. The extension gives more time to fresh applicants and those who could not complete the process earlier. IGNOU offers undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma and certificate courses in various subjects through ODL and online modes. The candidates who fulfill the eligibility criteria can submit their applications through the official admission portals. The candidates are advised to complete the registration process before the new deadline to avoid any last-minute technical problems or payment failures.

How to apply online

Candidates can follow these steps to complete the application process:

  1. Visit the official ODL admission portal: ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in
  2. Click on “New Registration” and create an account.
  3. Fill in personal, academic and contact details.
  4. Upload scanned copies of required documents, photograph and signature.
  5. Pay the application fee online through debit card, credit card or net banking.
  6. Submit the form and download the confirmation page.

Fresh admission for January 2026 session

IGNOU has extended the deadline for admission to both ODL and Online programmes till February 28, 2026. The extension has been applied to a number of courses such as BA, BCom, BSc, MA, MCom, MBA, and Diplomas.The university conducts admissions twice a year, in January and July sessions. For the January 2026 cycle, students now have additional time to submit their forms. Candidates must check the eligibility criteria, fee structure and course details before applying.Students should ensure that all required documents are uploaded correctly. Incomplete forms may be rejected.

Courses offered under ODL and Online mode

IGNOU offers programmes through Open and Distance Learning mode across study centres in India and abroad. The Online programmes are delivered fully through digital platforms.Undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma and certificate courses are available in arts, commerce, science, management, education and social sciences. The university also offers professional and skill-based programmes.Students applying for Online programmes must have access to internet and a valid email ID. All communication from the university will be sent through registered email and SMS.
