The good part is, you can avoid most problems with a few simple habits. Start with parking. Whenever you step out, look for shade. It does not have to be perfect. Even a tree helps. If you do not have that option, use a car cover. It may feel like an extra step, but it protects your paint and keeps the cabin slightly cooler. Over time, this also helps your car look newer for longer. When you get back into a sun-baked car, do not rush. Open the doors or roll down the windows and let the trapped heat escape. Give it a minute. Then switch on the AC. This small step reduces stress on the system and cools the cabin faster. Also, do not blast the AC at full immediately. Let it settle in gradually.
Now think about what the sun is doing inside your car. Your dashboard and plastics take a direct hit. You can protect them easily. Use a windshield sunshade. It makes a noticeable difference. If your car has leather seats, you already know how hot they can get. Seat covers help here. They also reduce wear over time. Under the hood, heat becomes more serious. Your engine coolant plays a big role in keeping temperatures under control. Check it regularly. Do not wait for a warning sign. Engine oil also needs to be in good condition. If your service is due, get it done. Summer is not the time to delay basic maintenance. Tyres also react to heat. The air inside expands, which can push pressure higher than normal. Check your tyre pressure more often in summer. Stick to the recommended levels. Also look closely at the tyres. Cracks or worn-out rubber can become risky in high temperatures. Your battery is another silent sufferer. Heat can shorten its life and affect performance. If you notice slow starts or weak lights, get it checked. It is better than being stuck somewhere unexpectedly. If you are planning a long drive, timing matters. Try to avoid peak afternoon heat. Early mornings or evenings are easier on both you and your car. Carry enough water. Keep an eye on the temperature gauge while driving. If it starts rising, do not ignore it. Pull over, let the car cool down, and then move again. In the end, your car just needs a bit of extra care during extreme heat. You do not have to do anything complicated. Just stay a little more aware. Treat your car well in summer, and it will stay dependable when you need it the most.
