Himachal Pradesh mandates EV charging points in real estate projects

The Himachal Pradesh government has made it mandatory to install electric vehicle charging stations in commercial, public and semi-public buildings, as well as in new real estate projects across the state. The provision comes under the Himachal Pradesh Town and Country Planning (17th Amendment) Rules, 2026, officials said on Tuesday, PTI reported.Town and Country Planning Minister Rajesh Dharmani said the decision is in line with model building bye-laws and is aimed at ensuring that urban infrastructure keeps pace with the growing adoption of electric vehicles. He said the state is working towards becoming a green energy state and that urban development policies are being updated to support sustainable growth.

India’s electric vehicle market has been growing at a rapid pace over the past few years. Electric two-wheelers continue to lead volumes, followed by three-wheelers, while electric passenger vehicle sales have also seen steady growth, crossing the one lakh units annual mark.
