Eid Ul Fitr 2026: When is Eid in India on 19 or 20? check date, chand raat and significance

As we all know that Ramadan days are the most sacred days for the Muslim community. Now the excitement is building across the globe to know the correct date of Eid Ul Fitra and people are eagerly waiting for this yearly festival to celebrate with immense joy and happiness. Ramadan month is all about observing fast from dawn to dusk, offering prayers, following five times namaz, doing introspection, self control, doing Sehri and Iftari with family and friends and sharing their happiness with their loved ones.

When is Eid Ul Fitr In India?

Eid means the day, when Muslim community break their month long fast and this day marks the ending of Ramadan month. They follow the lunar calendar and according to that Eid date varies every year and the date can not be confirmed until the crescent moon is sighted. The final confirmation will depend upon the sighting of the crescent moon. In India, Eid Ul Fitar 2026 is expected to celebrate on March 20 or March 21. The moon sighting is expected to happen on March 19, 2026 and if that actually happens, Eid will be celebrated on March 20, 2026. The official announcement is made after the moon sighting.

What to do after sighting the crescent Moon:

It is said that when the moon is sighted then people immediately start celebrating and sending wishes to each other and their loved ones. This is called as pre Eid celebration and known as chand raat. This is the night which is full of joy and happiness. Women apply mehendi on their hands and start preparing different dishes and desserts.

Eid Ul Fitr 2026: Celebration

Eid Ul Fitr is usually known as Meethi Eid, which is celebrated for three days long days and people enjoy this these days with their family, friends and loved ones by distributing sweets, giving them wishes, and visiting their relatives. The day starts by waking up early in the morning, taking bath, wearing nice clean clothes and offering prayers of namaz. They get engaged in charitable deeds such as feeding the needy ones, giving them money, clothes and other useful items. Children receive Eidi or gifts from their elders, which is the most happiest part of this celebration. This is how they celebrate this Eid with immense joy and happiness.
