'Ceasefire unreasonable': Iran rejects Donald Trump's peace proposal, claims violation of 3 key clauses

Iran on Thursday rejected US President Donald Trump‘s peace proposal claiming that the States had violated three key clauses of the plan even before the negitiations started. Terming the ceasefire “unreasonable”, it said that Iran held a “deep historical distrust” towards Amercia, citing repeated violations of all forms of commitments.The three violations include non-complaince of first clause regarding ceasefire in Lebanon, entry of an intruding drone into Iran airspace and denial of Iran’s right to enrichment.“The deep historical distrust we hold toward the United States stems from its repeated violations of all forms of commitments a pattern that has regrettably been repeated once again. As the President of the United States has clearly stated in his Truth, the Islamic Republic of Iran’s 10-Point Proposal is a “workable basis on which to negotiate” and the main framework for these talks. However, 3 clauses of this proposal have been violated so far,” said a statement shared by Iranian Parliament Speaker MB Ghalibaf.The three violated clauses as listed in the statement were:

  • Non-compliance with the first clause of the 10-Point Proposal regarding the ceasefire in Lebanon a commitment that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has also explicitly referred to and declared as “an immediate ceasefire everywhere, including Lebanon and other regions, effective immediately”;
  • The entry of an intruding drone into Iran airspace, which was destroyed in the city of Lar in Fars Province, in clear violation of the clause prohibiting any further violation of Iran airspace;
  • Denial of Iran’s right to enrichment, which was included in sixth clause of the framework.

“Now, the very “workable basis on which to negotiate” has been openly and clearly violated, even before the negotiations began. In such situation, a bilateral ceasefire or negotiations is unreasonable,” it concluded.Earlier, chief of Iran’s nuclear agency had said that protecting Tehran’s right to enrich uranium was “necessary” for ceasefire talks.“It is a part of the necessary (things) that nobody speaks about,” AP quoted Mohammad Eslami saying, referring to US refusal to acknowledge enrichment as one part of Iran’s 10-point plan for a permanent ceasefire.The United States and Iran are scheduled to hold talks in Islamabad later this weekend.Both the US and Iran declared success following the ceasefire agreement. However, additional drones and missiles struck Iran and Gulf Arab states even after the deal was announced. Meanwhile, Israel escalated its offensive against Hezbollah in Lebanon on Wednesday, targeting both commercial and residential areas in Beirut. The strikes marked the deadliest day of fighting, with at least 182 fatalities, as emergency teams continued overnight efforts to locate people trapped beneath the rubble.
