Was it a bold fashion statement? A subtle attempt to look unfazed in a room that included Donald Trump? Or the diplomatic equivalent of hiding a long night in the Swiss Alps?
The Élysee Palace, however, insisted there was nothing political — or rock star-esque — about it. Macron himself cleared up the mystery with typical briskness, opening one meeting with a polite disclaimer: apologies for the sunglasses, he explained, but he had a “mild eye condition.” French media later reported the culprit was a burst blood vessel — hardly the stuff of summit intrigue.However, people on social media find the way to troll Macron.
