Ranveer Singh’s ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ is not only performing strongly at the box office but is also generating significant conversation for the fresh energy it brings to the screen. The film has emerged as a talking point for its storytelling, performances, and casting choices, making it one of the most discussed releases recently. One of the standout elements of ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ is the chemistry between Ranveer Singh and Sara Arjun, which comes across as natural and refreshing. While their on-screen dynamic has been widely appreciated, reports suggest considerable effort went into finalising Sara for the role of Yalina Jamali to ensure the pairing felt new and believable.
Fresh pairing of Ranveer Singh and Sara Arjun
Casting director Mukesh Chhabra revealed that over a thousand auditions were conducted before Sara Arjun was selected. The intention from the outset was to cast someone entirely new, allowing the character to feel authentic without any baggage of previous roles.Speaking about the process, Mukesh Chhabra shared with Moneycontrol, “Humara initially bohot saara discussion iss film mein chala tha, ki humko jis jagah ki woh ladki dikhani hai, koi aisa fresh approach lena bohot zaroori hai (There were extensive discussions initially about how we needed a very fresh approach for the kind of girl the role required). Initially, we thought of so many big, established actors. Aditya got so many messages from different people. I got messages asking, ‘Why not me?’ Because, of course, he’s Ranveer. Hum log bohot clear the ki poori duniya mein woh fresh ladki lagni chahiye jiska koi background naa ho (We were very clear that she should look like a completely fresh face with no background), so that aisa lage ki uss duniya mein he is going (so that it feels like he is entering a new world).”
Auditions Built Around a Key Scene
The audition process for ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ was designed around a crucial scene from the film. Mukesh Chhabra shared, “If you’ve seen part 2, the scene where she says, ‘Are you a Hindustani agent?’ (Are you an Indian agent?) that was my audition script,” offering insight into how actors were evaluated during the selection process.
Sara Arjun’s audition that sealed the deal
When Sara Arjun auditioned, the response was reportedly immediate. “Jab usne woh scene kiya, immediately I sent it to Aditya on WhatsApp (When she performed the scene, I immediately sent it to Aditya on WhatsApp). He said, ‘Kaun hai yeh?’ (Who is she?) I said she’s the new girl… Initially, we were thinking, ‘Will she look short?’ But then we thought kahani ke saath woh correct lagega (she would fit well with the story)… She gave a kick-ass audition… you’ll know why we took that girl,” he added, highlighting how her performance stood out.
About ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’
Directed by Dhar, this is the second installment of the 2025 spy thriller. The cast also features Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, Rakesh Bedi, Sara Arjun, and Danish Pandor in key roles. According to reports, the film has already earned Rs 1,128 crore at the box office worldwide, and shows no signs of slowing down.
