Delhi cop held after girlfriend shoots self dead with his service pistol in Noida Extension

NOIDA: A Delhi Police head constable was arrested after his girlfriend allegedly shot herself with his service pistol at a flat in Greater Noida West late on Thursday night, following an argument that was sparked by a phone call from his wife. The 34-year-old woman succumbed to injuries late on Friday.Police said they were informed about the woman with a bullet injury by officials at Yatharth Hospital, where she was taken for treatment. “A team from Bisrakh police station rushed to Yatharth. The woman was identified as Priya Singh (34), a resident of Gaur Saundaryam,” a senior officer said.During initial inquiry, police found that a man, later identified as Ashish Pawar, had brought her to the hospital. “Teams were formed and, with the help of technical surveillance, Ashish was taken into custody,” the officer said.According to police, Pawar told cops he was posted as a head constable in Delhi Police. “He revealed he was married but had applied for divorce. For the last 5 years, he was in a relationship with Priya and they were living together for three months at Gaur Saundaryam,” the officer said.Police said trouble began when the two had gone to a party at a friend’s house in Radha Sky Garden on Thursday night. “A total of four persons were at the party, including the constable and his girlfriend. They all consumed liquor. This was confirmed when a team visited the spot and found bottles on the table. The two others at the party also gave their statements,” the officer told TOI.Police said the situation escalated during the gathering. “Pawar received a call from his wife, following which the girlfriend got furious,” the officer said. He added that the two argued, after which Priya went to her flat and allegedly shot herself with Pawar’s licensed pistol. “After the incident, Pawar rushed the woman to hospital and tried to flee the scene. But we managed to trace him down,” the officer said.According to police, Priya worked as a property dealer and was aware of Pawar’s marital status. “The family members of Priya were informed. They lodged a written complaint, following which an investigation was initiated,” the officer said. Her family, police said, has alleged that Pawar lied to Priya about his marital situation and pressured her into taking the step. Pawar, who is posted at Kalindi Kunj police station, was arrested under charges of abetment of suicide and provisions of the Arms Act, along with other relevant sections of BNS.
