Google reaches 1GW milestone in flexible data centre energy use

In a blog post, Google announced that it has integrated 1 gigawatt (GW) of demand response capacity into its long-term energy contracts with utilities across the United States. The company said the move will help manage electricity demand from its data centres and support power grid stability. The development comes as data centre energy use continues to grow with increasing demand for artificial intelligence and cloud services.Google said its demand response system allows it to shift or reduce machine learning workloads during peak demand periods. This helps lower electricity usage when the grid is under pressure. The company has signed agreements with utilities including Indiana Michigan Power, Tennessee Valley Authority, Entergy Arkansas, Minnesota Power and DTE Energy.Google said the system helps utilities balance supply and demand, reduce costs, and avoid building additional infrastructure for peak usage.
