AURANGABAD: Four girls allegedly died by suicide together after their parents scolded them for mingling with boys at a place in Bihar’s Aurangabad district, a senior police officer said on Monday.Five girls, aged between 10 and 14 years, had reportedly consumed some poisonous substance on January 29 in a Dalit settlement in Haspura police station area, and only one of them survived.
They were cremated on the same day without a postmortem examination, and the police have begun an investigation after the local media reported it.Aurangabad superintendent of police Ambrish Rahul said, “According to the statement of the surviving girl, they had decided to consume a poisonous substance after being scolded by their family members for mingling with a group of boys.” Rahul said that they consumed the poison together in a field. While the four girls died, the fifth one returned home and informed her family members about the incident.The girl had been hospitalised and is now out of danger.Talking to PTI, Daudnagar SDPO Ashok Kumar Das said, “The investigation is still going on. Right now, we just have the statement of the surviving girl.” The police have not been able to ascertain the involvement of any other person in the case, he added.“The deceased girls were cremated on January 29 itself, two days before the police received the information about the incident,” a police official said.According to the family members of one of the deceased, the girls had gone out to play, and they were informed later by the villagers that their daughter was found dead in a nearby field, along with her friends.Earlier last week, three half-sisters who were inseparable were found dead next to each other on the premises of Bharat City in Ghaziabad, directly below the bedroom window of their ninth-floor apartment.The incident occurred around 2am on Wednesday, Bharat City resident Arun Kumar told TOI, claiming he witnessed the fall. The sisters, aged 16, 14 and 12, had spent nearly every waking moment together, residents said.According to Kumar’s account, the eldest girl first sat on the window ledge with her back facing the compound. The two younger girls stood in front of her, holding her tightly. Moments later, the eldest leaned back and fell. Within seconds, the other two girls jumped after her, he said.The girls left behind a one-page note addressed to their father, indicating their disturbed state of mind. The note contained an apology — “Sorry Papa” — and a directive to him to read their diary — “READ NOW.” The sisters were not attending school at the time.The diary, reviewed by TOI, reveals an intense obsession with Korean culture, including K-pop, BL (boy love) dramas and Korean lifestyle. It also reflects their resentment towards their father for opposing their interest. “Sorry papa, Korea was our life. How did you even dare to take this from us?” one entry reads.Chetan did not deny the girls’ K-obsession. “They listened to Korean music, watched Korean films, dramas, web series and cartoons. They also wanted to go to Korea. All three girls wanted us to accept Korean culture, but when we refused, their behaviour towards us changed and they went into a shell. They lived in their own world,” he said.
