IBM techie jumps to death after finding husband hanging in Bengaluru flat

BENGALURU: A 32-year-old IT engineer, who worked in US for five years before losing his job to AI-triggered cuts last year, was found hanging in his flat in an upscale apartment in Kothanur, north Bengaluru, Monday morning.Within minutes of coming to know of her husband’s death, his wife, who works with an IT major, went to the 18th floor of the apartment complex and leapt to her death.The deceased from Telangana have been identified as Bhanu Chander Reddy and Bibi Shaziya Siraj, 31.

Police said a note left by Reddy suggested he was upset over many issues, including health. Shaziya did not leave behind any note. The interfaith couple shifted from Telangana to Bengaluru after Shaziya secured a job with IBM.Techie suffered from anxiety related to joblessness: PoliceThey moved into a flat on the eighth floor of Tower 6 of Nikoo Homes, Bhartiya City, Thanisandra Main Road, eight months ago.Police said Shaziya, who returned from Hyderabad Monday morning, called up security personnel around 7.30am, stating Reddy was not opening the bedroom door or responding to calls on his cellphone. They broke open the door to find him hanging from the ceiling fan of the room. A death note was on the table.A shocked Shaziya read the note. She was present in the flat for about 20 minutes. As neighbours rushed into the flat and were busy calling in police and ambulance, Shaziya reportedly slipped out of the house, went to the 18th floor and took the fatal plunge. She died instantly, police said.Preliminary probe said the couple was married for two and a half years. “Shaziya hadn’t informed her family of the marriage, while Reddy’s parents knew,” an officer said, quoting the couple’s family and colleagues. After losing his job in the US, Reddy was looking for suitable employment there. He returned to Hyderabad and lived with his wife, planning to find a job in India. Since Shaziya had kept the marriage a secret, it became difficult for the couple to live in Hyderabad – home to many of the couple’s relatives. Around that time, they shifted to Bengaluru.Reddy faced health issues, caused mainly by anxiety related to joblessness. Besides, he was facing a financial crunch, a police officer said.
