‘Awarapan 2’ has locked a new theatrical release window, with Emraan Hashmi set to return as Shivam in the sequel, now targeting the Independence Day 2026 weekend. The film had previously been scheduled for an April 3 release, but that plan changed because production remained unfinished. The update puts one of Emraan’s most talked-about follow-ups back in focus, especially as the original ‘Awarapan’ continues to hold strong recall among fans for its story, music, and Shivam’s character arc.

According to Bollywood Hungama, the makers have finalized the Independence Day 2026 weekend for the film’s release. The publication stated, “Awarapan 2 has shaped up well as a musical, intense love story with Emraan Hashmi and Disha Patani. The makers were considering several release dates and have finally decided on the Independence Day weekend.” The report also said the film is still on the floors and that the remaining shoot is expected to wrap by the end of April, followed by about 2 months of post-production.

The report said ‘Awarapan’ has gained cult status over the years and noted that two songs from the first film’s album have been recreated for the sequel. Those tracks are among the film’s major highlights. That adds another layer of nostalgia to a sequel already drawing attention for Emraan’s return and the continued popularity of the first film’s music.
